The flare stack service industry does more than maintain and repair the permanent flare systems of refineries. There is a whole facet of flare stack service that involves the ability to produce and set up quickly and efficiently portable flare systems and flare ignitors. This facet of the flare stack service industry is commonly referred to as flare rentals.

Field Applications for Flare Rentals

There are a number of situations that arise out in the field both onshore and offshsore where access to a temporary rental flare is critical. Pipeline blow-downs and well testing and exploratory drilling can all involve unexpected encounters with waste gas coming out at velocities that ...

Tall refinery flare stacks are supported by guy rope cabling that requires regular rope inspection & maintenance     Guy wire rope cabling for refinery flares is, like any guy rope application, subject to friction, bending and tension.  While it is not casually observable, guy wire cabling is a moving and working strength member of the flare stack structure. The guy wires of refinery flares are the primary stabilizing component to the whole flare stack structure, and if provided competent rope inspection and maintenance care, it will give consistent and reliable service.

Even in ideal weather the guy rope loses strength over time, as a natural consequence of maintaining the stability of the tall structure it supports. So what is the best way to maintain rope performance and evaluate ...

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So goes the maxim and it applies very well to the care and inspection programs of industrial combustion equipment in the petrochemical industry.

Flare Preventive Maintenance Program

From the flare tips at the extreme top of the stack all the way down to the guy wires holding it to the ground every inch of a flare stack is under the most intense of conditions. Acute heat exposure to wind and rain it is in operation both day and night and the petrochemical flare is subject to plenty of wear and tear. Providing the flare with a good preventive maintenance program can save precious time and a whole lot of money.

Flares & Stacks' efficient flare stack preventive maintenance ...

Refinery and petrochemical plant managers normally keep flare maintenance on a regular schedule to meet the operational life expectancies of flare tips. But even so, come maintenance time, all components of the flare stack are at risk of needing repair or replacement, and only a thorough flare inspection will tell if there is a critical issue that must be addressed. If there are components significantly worn or damaged, and if they are left unaddressed, it could lead to emergency shut down or worse.

The difficulty for the plant manager is how to maintain the flare stack while keeping it operational to the greatest degree possible. Because flare stacks operate at such high temperatures...
